There’s so much to love about fall – the changing colors, the hot apple ciders, and pumpkin-spiced drinks, and even finally getting to wear those cozy sweaters and boots. There are, however, other things to be wary of in fall and winter like the inevitable frizzy, dry hair and parched skin.
Late fall and all of the winter are when our cold weather makes our hair lose its moisture and becomes prone to damage and breakage. Now’s the perfect time to start changing our haircare routine and stocking up on the products you love that are designed to keep your hair healthy and manageable all winter long.
Here are some tips and products to add to your cold-weather hair care routine:
Ease up on hair washings. Although your hair produces its own natural oils, it needs a little help sometimes with adding moisture and nourishment. Over shampooing can strip your hair of these nutrients. Typically, once or twice a week is sufficient for shampooing and when you do shampoo, use a gentle cleansing shampoo such as Davines Dede Shampoo to gently cleanse and moisturize.
Be gentle with wet hair. Wet hair is when it’s at its most fragile. When you get out of the shower with wet hair, gently comb out the tangles with a wide-tooth comb or paddle brush. Pulling hard on the hair or roughly towel drying can cause damage to the hair shaft and breakage. Going out in the cold with wet hair can also cause the hair shaft to expand, making your strands susceptible to weakening and breaking.
Conditioner is your best friend. It’s important to regularly add moisture to your hair with a high-quality conditioner so that your hair stays soft, supple, and manageable. Davines NaturalTech Nourishing Vegetarian Miracle Conditioner is a replenishing conditioner for dry and brittle hair. It reinforces the structure of your hair while moisturizing and adding in nutrients. *Extra stylist tip – rinse your hair with cool water to seal the hair cuticles and lock in the moisture better.
Add a deep conditioner to your routine. Although you may be conditioning regularly, taking the time at least once a week with Leaf + Flower CBD Conditioner will add the deep conditioning your hair needs during the dry winter. Not only does a mask repair damage to dry hair, but it will also help to strengthen your hair with added moisturizing nutrients.
Indulge in a salon treatment. At Pyara, we know that sometimes your hair needs just a little extra help. That’s why we carry The Circle Chronicles from Davines. We offer 7 unique hair masks that deliver targeted results. From deep nourishment to detoxifying power, whichever you choose, you’ll leave our salon with soft, shiny, healthy hair.
Say goodbye to frizz. Your hair becomes extra frizzy in the fall and winter months because of the lack of moisture in the air. While deep conditioners and in-salon treatments can reduce the frizz, you can also use the Olaplex No 7 Bonding Oil after styling to give you a soft, smooth texture while keeping your frizz at bay all day long.
Upkeep with regular trims. It’s key to regularly remove the split-ends and damage for healthy hair. This keeps split ends from damaging your hair further up the hair shaft. It also makes your hair appear to grow faster since your hair will break less, helping it grow longer in a shorter amount of time. So, even if you’re trying to grow out your hair, regular trims are important.
Use heated tools less. When you apply too much heat to your hair, it’s the perfect recipe for breakage, split ends, and damage. Because your hair is most frail during the winter, try to reduce how often you use heated styling tools. When you do need to style your hair with a blow-dryer, curling rod, or straightener, apply a heat protection spray beforehand. Our Davines Blowout Primer is the perfect leave-in spray to protect your hair while reducing the frizz and boosting the shine.
