Traditional Bikini Wax Or Brazilian Wax- Which Is Right For You?

Traditional Bikini Wax Or Brazilian Wax- Which Is Right For You?

We are not right in the middle of bikini season, and by now you’re probably sick of shaving and wondering about alternative hair removal options. Probably the most popular alternative to shaving is waxing. There are a couple of options when it comes to waxing the bikini area. There is the traditional traditional bikini wax and the Brazilian wax. But what is the difference between a traditional bikini and Brazilian waxing, and which is right for you? We are going to answer those two questions here today.

What Is the Difference Between Traditional Bikini and Brazilian Waxing?

Bikini and Brazilian waxing are very similar in the fact that they use the melted wax to remove hair at the root level resulting in weeks of smooth, hair-free skin. The difference lies in how much hair is removed. A bikini wax only removes hair that falls at and outside of the bikini line. A Brazilian wax removes all of the hair from the bikini area leaving everything smooth and hair free.

So Which Is Right For You?

Bikini or Brazilian, which is right for you? Well, either one will prep your intimate area for hitting the beach without needing to shave. So it really comes down to personal preference. You have to decide which aesthetic you want and which will feel best to you. You might also want to consider what type of bikini you like to wear. Is it more full coverage or a tiny string bikini?  The smaller the bikini the more hair you’ll want to be removed.

When making your choice you also need to consider the time and discomfort involved. Since bikini waxing doesn’t cover as much surface area it only takes a few minutes to perform. A Brazilian wax is a bit more detailed and so it naturally takes longer.

While most people don’t find waxing to be a reasonably comfortable experience, there will always be some small level of discomfort. After all, you are pulling hair out by the root. Those who wax regularly experience much less discomfort than those who wax infrequently or are new to waxing. So this is something important to consider. If this is your first time waxing you may want to start with a traditional bikini wax and go for a full Brazilian at the next waxing session to make your experience more comfortable. But after the initial wax, most people don’t find much difference in comfort level between the two.

How Effective Is Waxing?

One question everyone always has is how effective is waxing. Waxing is one of the most effective hair removal methods for several reasons. Let’s take a look at them now.

Complete Hair Removal- Shaving and hair removal creams only remove the hair at or just below the surface of the skin. That leaves hair still growing below the skin in the follicle. So these methods just remove the top portion of the hair and it grows back in a few hours to a few days at most. Waxing completely removed the hair, root, and all. The process can even cause damage to the follicle that then has to be repaired before the growth cycle can begin.

Long Lasting Results- Because the follicle has to repair itself and then begin growing an entirely new hair from the root up, it can take up to 6 weeks before you start to see new growth. That gives you much more time to enjoy smooth hair-free skin before having to think about hair removal again. The more consistent you are with your wax routing the longer the results will last.

Precise Hair Removal- Hair removal creams can drip and smear, and razors can slip resulting in accidents. Your esthetician will apply wax only to the area that you want hair removed from for precise hair removal. This allows for perfect shaping for any area being treated, be it the bikini line or eyebrows.

Exfoliation- Waxing comes with a little bonus. The warm wax doesn’t just stick to the hair it’s applied to. It sticks to the uppermost layer of skin as well. This is where dead skin cells and debris build-up. The warm moist wax softens this build and when the wax and hair are removed they take those dead, dull skin cells with them leaving you with a brighter complexion.

How Often Does Waxing Need to Be Done?

How often waxing needs to be done varies slightly from person to person due to their personal hair growth patterns. You can expect to need a waxing appointment about every 3-6 weeks. Once you’ve determined how often you need to wax you’ll want to set up a regular waxing schedule and maintain it year-round for best results. Waxing regularly slows hair growth and desensitizes the follicles for less discomfort during a waxing session.
