It’s a given that you change your wardrobe with the seasons. But what about skincare? Should you change your routine based on the weather? Yes you should, and here are a few changes you should consider making now as we head into summer.
Switch to Lighter Weight Products
Dry winter air calls for thick heavy creams and moisturizers to keep dry skin at bay. But as the humidity rises, the need for these extra strength moisturizers goes down. If you continue to use those same heavy products you may find that your skin will start to feel greasy, and you might even experience breakouts. Switch to a lighter weight water-based moisturizer to keep your skin hydrated and protected without extra oils to clog pores.
Don’t Skimp on the Sunscreen
Most people spend more time outdoors in the summer. Whether you are spending the day at the beach or sitting in the backyard sipping iced tea at a barbeque, don’t forget the sunscreen. You should be wearing an SPF of 30 or greater daily year round, but it’s especially important as the days lengthen and the sun’s rays strengthen in summer. You may want to consider using a moisturizer with SPF 50 for greatest protection against sun damage, the number one cause of premature skin aging.
Schedule Regular Facials
As the weather heats up, your skin ramps up oil and sweat production to protect from UV damage and keep you cool. And while this can keep your skin soft and supple, it can also lead to clogged pores and breakouts. To keep your skin looking fresh and clear be sure to schedule facials at regular intervals throughout the season.
